ALPHARETTA, GA: Week 2 Power Rankings | Enough Said Makes an Early Statement
Jay Gooden is a big pickup for the Free Agents.
Everyone knows about Enough Said, but the real story in week 2 is the new look of the Free Agents. They move up slightly this week in the rankings with a big matchup ahead. Can Brian Richardson and Jay Gooden, formally of Max Contracts, turn this team into a contender?
1. Enough Said (2-0)
Enough Said is definitely the best team in the entire region at this point. They are playing some of their best basketball since they formed this team. I don't see anyone beating them and they are the early favorite to be this years Atlanta Champion (more on the new playoff format to come!). Their only competition at this point might be from another league.
2. The Late Starters (2-0)
The Late Starters solidified the number 2 spot with a big win versus the Spartans last week. Tony Neysmith led the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds. He is possibly the best individual player in our league and is very tough to stop. They have a lot more offensive fire power this year, and if their role players can just do their jobs and not try to do too much they may be able to contend with Enough Said.
3. Team Follies (1-1)
The rumor was true and Kevin Willis is out for the season. That loss will be a huge offensive and rebounding hit for Follies. They lost a tough game against Enough Said last week and they just can't seem to get over the hump. They just continue to float around the middle of the pack. They have not had their starting center Darcey Schultz for the first two games, but he will return for week 3. They are a completely different team with Schultz involved. If they can keep him healthy this season the sky is the limit for this team.
4. Free Agents (1-1)
The new look of the Free Agents got them into the win column in Week 2. Henry Morris, Brian Richardson, and Jay Gooden all shot above 50% and had over 20+ points each. Could this be Alpharetta's version of the Big 3? It might be too early to start that kind of talk, but if those guys can put up numbers like that every week they will be able to play with any team in the league. Richardson will have to step up his defensive this week if he expects to slow down the guys from Team Follies.
5. Spartans (0-2)
The Spartans just don't look ready for Alpharetta's level of play. Although they have had some calls not go their way, they have been complaining about officiating way too much. They need to start getting back to what makes them a great team, which is intensity. If they can find a way to control that intensity and not let it lead to technicals and bad basketball they should be able to start to compete at Alpharetta. This is not the start they wanted, but this week they should be able to get back on the winning track.
6. Mumford Returns (0-2)
There is no reason this team can't start to play better. I think they mostly just aren't used to playing together and haven't figured out how to mesh. Their roster has some guys that can go out and score, but their level of intensity is not where it needs to be. They most intense they get during a game is with each other during a timeout. If they don't start to run back on defense and play together they will go 0-8.
