WESTMINSTER, CO: Week 3 Preview | An 11th Team Joins the League
Deep thoughts...
Week 3 Preview
Ignite Athletics vs. We Goin Sizzler
Coming in at 2-0, Ignite Athletics has a tough challenge this week against We Goin Sizzler. Although Ignite Athletics is 2-0, there is still question as to whether they are a top team in this league. A win this week could definitely solidify their position. We Goin Sizzler is coming off a subpar performance last week and is sure to be hungry to get back to their winning ways. Expect this game to be a slower paced chess match in which the team that executes the best will grind out a victory. Both teams are very team oriented and any player could shine this week. If you like ball movement and quality basketball, this will be a must see game.
June Bug’s pick: We Goin Sizzler
The Bad Boys vs. Hard Work
On paper, this matchup seems like it would be a very lopsided affair. Hard Work won their past two games by double digits and the Bad Boys are coming off a tough loss in week 2. Seasons past show the Bad Boys tend to only show up in the playoffs, but if they decide to play playoff-like basketball now, they have a good chance to pull out a victory this week. Hard Work’s Shondell Lee is coming off two impressive performances in weeks 1 and 2, so look for the Bad Boys to have a strategy to stop him. The Bad Boys are probably the most seasoned team in the league and this matchup against an early powerhouse has the potential for a great game.
June Bug’s pick: Hard Work
The Gladiators vs. Man Bear Pig
In perhaps the most testosterone filled game of the week, Saul Chavira leads his Gladiators against the “trainers” of Life Time. There will be a lot of muscle on the court in this game, so expect this to be a very physical affair. If you like excitement, this will surely be a game to watch loaded with 3-pointers, hard fouls and gritty basketball. Any given week, the Gladiators can beat any team in the league if they catch fire from deep. Unfortunately, their greatest asset can also be their greatest detriment. If Man Bear Pig can shut down the 3 game of the Gladiators expect a victory on their end. Man Bear Pig hasn’t played to their full potential yet, so this game will be a very interesting one to say the least.
June Bug’s pick: The Gladiators
Hoopsters vs. Impact Basketball
Hoopsters are coming off a blowout loss in week 2, yet, there was still potential on their end. Its too early in the season to like them in this matchup but as the season progresses and players adapt to each other’s play styles, Hoopsters have the potential to make some noise. Impact Basketball is coming off two easy victories in the first two weeks but is yet to be truly tested. This is a classic trap game, and Impact Basketball needs to not take this team lightly. Many expect this game to be a blowout win for Impact Basketball, but who knows, Hoopsters might have a way to “deflate” Impact Basketball up their sleeve.
June Bug’s pick: Impact Basketball
The Great Unknown vs. Slam Drunk
This matchup is probably going to be one of the most exciting games of the week. Both teams are 1-1 and have high goals in the season ahead. Coming off a big week in week 2, The Great Unknown’s TJ Cyriacks looks to have another high scoring performance, while Slam Drunk’s Gehrick Dickson looks to continue his dominance. Slam Drunk has chemistry in their favor having played together for multiple seasons, but The Great Unknown’s talented roster has them in the position to defeat any team. Expect this game to be high scoring and most likely a nail biter. With a win this week, the Great Unknown could finally become known. Slam Drunk certainly won’t be willing to just let that happen. Expect a good game in this matchup.
June Bug’s pick: The Great Unknown
Get Buckets vs. The Gladiators
Get Buckets is the newest team added to the Westminster league, and not a lot is know about them. One thing they have in their favor is they will be going up against a Gladiators team that will be playing their second game of the night. It’s going to take a lot from the newbies to find their chemistry in their first game action, but this game should be a battle nonetheless.
June Bug’s pick: The Gladiators
