COMMERCE OPEN: Power Rankings | Revamped Hit Squad at the top of the board
Antonio Harrison stretches to the basket
Ill Life La Familia drops a close one for their first loss, allowing the revamped Hit Squad a week at the #1 spot in the rankings.
1) Hit Squad (3-1, last week #2) – Led by the Mid-Season MVP Rocko Holmes (27.5 ppg, 14.8 rpg), Hit Squad has the unique ability to drop the ball into the post every possession and get a solid look for Holmes or one of his teammates. I expect a lot more double teams or zone defenses to prevent Rocko from putting up the monster numbers he has so far in the first 4 games of the season.
2) C4 (3-1, last week #3) – C4 knocked off previous #1 ILLF and did so playing their style. They had 25 assists on 31 FG’s, however, almost blew a 14-pt half time lead by rushing shots and turning the ball over too much. They showed they could grind out a tough win over a bigger, more athletic team in week #4 and games like this will only help C4 down the stretch and into the playoffs.
3) Ill Life La Familia (3-1, last week #1) – ILLF has a chance to climb right back up the rankings in a matchup with Hit Squad in week #5. A 2-pt loss to C4 is nothing to be ashamed of. If anything, it further validated ILLF as a contender for the regular season and playoff championships this session and beyond.
4) Dat Aint Fair (2-2, last week #4) – Something just isn’t write with Dat Aint Fair. Chemistry seems to have completely deteriorated after winning back to back championships. A 5-pt win over Sons of Basketball, who was playing without its top 2 guards, did nothing to show other contenders in the league that DAF is back. They have 4 games left in the regular season to figure it out, and all the talent in the world on their roster. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if they made a run and ended up winning a 3rd consecutive championship.
5) Sons of Basketball (1-3, last week #5) – SOB lost a golden opportunity to take hold of the 4th and final playoff spot last week against Dat Aint Fair. Without Antonio Harrison and Darius Statum, SOB still put up a great fight. They are going to need all hands on deck next week in a matchup against C4.
6) Running Rebels (0-4, last week #6) – The Rebels ran out of steam in the 2nd half against Hit Squad, playing with only 5 players. GM Rashodd Ross needs a win this week against DAF and he needs it bad. If the Running Rebels team that showed up in week #2 shows up in weeks 5 through 8, they could be a playoff team. If The Rebels simply don’t show up, they might finish without a win.
