WESTMINSTER, CO: Week 3 Preview | Can the White Iversons get to four wins?
Looking for their first win
The fall season is getting in to the thick of things in Westminster. The undefeated White Iversons play their only doubleheader of the season on Tuesday night. Can they become the first team to four wins on the season?
White Iversons vs. The Kardashians
White Iversons are playing with all the confidence in the world coming off of two impressive wins in the first couple weeks. The Kardashians had a tough week last week having gassed out in both their games leading to a couple of losses. If all of The Kardashians show up, they are a much different team than we saw last week, so that will be a crucial aspect to look for. White Iversons need to continue pushing their style of play and if they can dictate the speed of the game, they can beat any team in this league. Chris Morgan will get the bulk of the Kardashians shots, while Derek Elliot claims that position for White Iversons. This game could very come down to which team has the hotter hand from the outside that given night.
Eat, Sleep, Ball, Repeat vs. FireSquad
ESBR is coming off of a close loss in week 2 and will look to rebound this week as they take on FireSquad. FireSquad is fresh off their first win of the season and needs this game to get their season heading even further in the right direction. I expect this game to be a very close one that will go down to the closing moments where someone from either team will have to step up and make a big play. Alfredo Gracia has been battling a hand injury early this season and if he gets to feeling well again, that is a whole other dynamic that he can bring to Fire Squad with his three point shooting ability. ESBR moves the ball better than most teams in the league and its that unselfishness that will get them some wins this season.
The Bad Boys vs. The Tropics
The Bad Boys are coming off of their best performance in many seasons of Ultimate Hoops and will need to stem off that for continuous success this season. This should be an easy win for them, as The Tropics were far from impressive last week. To be fair, The Tropics did play the leagues number one team last week so if there is any light, that’s it. I don’t expect this game to be close, but it’s on the Tropics to prove me wrong.
The Gladiators vs. Havoc
The Gladiators are 1-1 on the year and are fresh off their first victory. Led by Saul Chavira, the Gladiators are a very unique team that is unlike anything we have seen from them in years past. They tend to score a lot in the mid-range now and look for them to continue that here against Havoc. Havoc is also 1-1 and has showed some signs of promise early on this season. Both teams are fairly evenly matched so it will come down to which team puts pressure on the defensive end of the court to throw the other team out of rhythm.
IMPACT Basketball vs. Purple Cobras
The Cobras need a win and they need it bad. Unfortunately, against IMPACT Basketball , that is a very tough task. Beau Barney has his team doing what Beau Barney does, which is WIN basketball games. Carlos Matos has had a nice shooting hand early on this season and that is important for taking off some of the scoring load from Beau. The Purple Cobras made it a close game last week but just fell short. Its evident that this team has never played together but over time I think they will find their groove and get some nice wins this season.
White Iversons vs. Eat, Sleep, Ball, Repeat
With the dreaded back to back game this week, this game could come down to which team has the most subs and can stay the best conditioned as the game wears on. We already mentioned how these two teams played, and their strategy will be the same for this game. Due to fatigue, this could either be a low scoring game where the teams struggle on the offensive end, or a very high scoring game where both teams are lax on defense. This is a game both teams will want to win and it is really anyone’s game.
