PLANO, TX: Team Spotlight | Basketball 101 handing out lessons

After drawing The Soldiers in their Plano debut and thus being handed a blowout loss, Basketball 101 has since taken form, literally and figuratively. The roster has come together and the results are indicative of a team that is already a serious threat in Ultimate Hoops.

Since week one, Basketball 101 have defeated the Tropics, Direwolves and Bucket Squad by a combined 95 points. It’s safe to say, despite a generous part of the schedule (aside from the Tropics), that this new addition to the league is showing its true colors.

With a roster that goes seven strong (arguably the perfect amount for the league) Basketball 101 has a little bit of everything, as their name would suggest.

Prince Benitez, or as League Coordinator Kim Anderson calls him, “The New Mike Malat,” is lethal from the three point line. Nick Thompson is a pure point guard with a sweet lefty touch. Christian Taber is one of the most impressive inside-out threats in the league. Judah Tanella is an athletic freak who seems to be all over the court at once. Drew Ray personifies the team name, stuffing the stat sheet and putting team first stats second.

As one of Plano’s best teams Getting Older has aptly shown, putting team first is a team-tested, league-approved strategy that seems too obvious for others to adapt.

Basketball 101 mirrors Getting Older in a lot of ways. Are they as good? Unlikely. Getting Older and The Soldiers are the teams to beat in Plano, but Basketball 101 is quickly rising in the rankings.
